Spa added to revised 10-round 2020 DTM Calendar

Germany’s premier touring car series DTM has announced a revised 10-weekend calendar for 2020, including the addition of a new race at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

DTM has today announced details of a revised 2020 calendar following disruptions caused by the global coronavirus pandemic. The new season is set to kick off at the Norisring street circuit in Nuremberg on July 10-12, though this first round is subject to governmental approval. The second round of the season is set to be contested at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the first time since 2005. The new calendar also features three back-t0-back racing weekends at the Lausitzring, Nürburgring and Circuit Zolder, and is set to conclude (as per tradition) at the Hockenheimring on November 6-8.

Missing from the previously announced 2020 DTM calendar are the rounds at Brands Hatch and Monza, as well as planned new races at Anderstorp in Sweden and Igora Drive in Russia. Today’s statement from DTM refers to a “detailed infection protection plan that is being continuously adapted to the current situation” and states that “the DTM’s basic plan involves races without spectators on site. However, developments around the various event locations are monitored carefully. As far as it is possible and justifiable from health and safety perspectives, races with spectators on site will be considered as well.” For those who had already bought tickets to 2020 events that will more than likely be run without spectators, DTM is converting those tickets to “flexible ticket vouchers” that will be valid for any event until the end of 2021.
