About
London’s ExCel Center finally made its first appearance on the Formula E calendar in 2021. The London E-Prix in the east of the city will take place again at the end of July 2023.
London previously hosted the Formula E season finale in both the first and second seasons, with a race at the Battersea Park Street Circuit. The race was discontinued following protests from an environmental group.
In March 2019, it was revealed that the London E-Prix will return to the calendar for the 2019/2020 season with a race around the Royal Victoria Dock in East London. The unique 23-turn track runs in and around the ExCeL Arena, making it the first Formula E track to run both indoors and outdoors. The main straight and pit lane are housed within the ExCeL building.
The London E-Prix was set to be the final event of the season in 2020, but was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the circuit’s inaugural double-header of races took place the following year. The event joined the calendar as part of a “multi-year agreement”.

How to get there
How to get to the London E-Prix at ExCel London.
- London is served by five airports, the closest of which is London City Airport (LCY). – right next door to the circuit. London City is quite small however, and only serves a limited number of domestic and European connections. London Heathrow (LHR) is the largest airport with the most number of connections, followed by Gatwick (LGW). For the best selection of discount flights to London, you can also consider Stansted (STN) or Luton (LTN).
- ExCel London is located in the east of the English capital. Public transport is the easiest way to get to the circuit, which is located on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), part of the London Underground. The Custom House and Prince Regent stops are a short distance from ExCel London. Click here for a London tube & rail map.
Where to stay
Where to stay for the London E-Prix.
Several modern hotels are located next to the ExCel Centre, including Aloft London Excel and Prince Regent Hotel Excel London, though it will be extremely difficult to get a room in these hotels on race weekend.
The good news is that the Excel Centre is well connected to other parts of the English capital via the DLR and Underground, so you can stay in central London and get the most out of the city.
