Seoul Street Circuit

About

The debut of the Seoul E-Prix on the Formula E calendar has been delayed due to COVID-19, with the first race at the Seoul Street Circuit not expected to happen now until 2022.

The Seoul E-Prix will be South Korea’s first major motorsport event since the last Formula 1 Korean Grand Prix was held in 2013. A major drawback of the Grand Prix was the five hour travel time from Seoul – something which won’t be an issue with a circuit within the capital city.

In 2018, a feasibility study was undertaken, highlighting the popular tourist area around Gwanghwamun Plaza as a potential venue. One year later, in July 2019, it was confirmed that the race would take place around the former Olympic Park, used in the 1998 Olympics. The 2.8km track is situated to the east of the city centre.

There are 19 corners at the circuit, with Turns 5 to 10 running inside the impressive 70,000 capacity Jamsil Olympic Stadium. The circuit also passes other sporting sights – with the pit-lane adjacent to the Jamsil Baseball Stadium. The event will remain on the calendar until at least 2025.
